Mr Aslam Mohammed
Mr Aslam Mohammed qualified from the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff in 1984. He presently holds an NHS Consultant Post at Wrightington Hospital for Joint Disease and at Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital. He undertook his specialist training in Orthopaedic and Trauma at the North Staffordshire Hospital in Stoke on Trent and at the Robert Jones Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. In addition to this he has spent a considerable amount of time travelling and visiting centres both in Europe and the USA to discuss and exchange ideas on the latest techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery. During his training he was awarded G K Rose Prize for Biomechanics and the Professors Medal for his research in bone cell culture techniques related to fracture healing.
His current research interests include fixation of ligament grafts in cruciate ligament reconstruction, minimal invasive hip surgery and the application of computers to assist in specific minimally invasive surgical procedures.
Mr Mohammed specialises in arthritic problems around the hip, knee and ankle joints, particularly in young adults. He utilises the techniques of hip arthroscopy, metal on metal prosthesis and partial joint replacement as indicated. He also provides the latest techniques for the management of Sports Injury including cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair and the reparative techniques available for damaged articular cartilage.
He feels that teaching and training of future generations of Orthopaedic Surgeons is of vital importance. He is involved in running courses on joint replacement surgery and soft tissue reconstruction utilising Cadaveric facilities here and abroad. He lectures both nationally and internationally. The topics include joint replacement in young adult patients, soft tissue injury in athletes requiring surgical treatment and on anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
