The Hip & Knee Centre was established in 1998 to provide a seamless total care concept for the patient. This starts at the first point of contact with the Centre, through treatment pathways and extends into postoperative surveillance and long-term follow up. The Centre continues to develop and embrace new techniques in order to set the standard in total patient care.
A multi-disciplinary team has been brought together to provide the skills necessary to achieve these goals. Two Orthopaedic surgeons with overall charge of patient care lead the team. They both hold NHS Consultant posts at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital for Joint Disease and specialise in hip and knee disorders.
The team members working with them include Consultant Anaesthetists, experienced in anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery, trained orthopaedic nursing staff and Chartered Physiotherapists. There are also radiographers, a dedicated theatre team and administrative staff. There is a Resident Medical Officer on site 24 hours a day to respond immediately to any medical situations that may arise.
The surgical options are comprehensive and matched to individual needs. The focus is on conservative and restorative techniques where possible and the selective use of joint replacements when necessary.
The Centre is suitable for patients with hip and knee problems. All surgery is audited and outcomes measured in order to improve the quality of service we provide and develop new techniques for future application.
